Why my CV is not on this site

Earlier this week, this site briefly had a link to my CV as a PDF. It had no phone number or email address, and search engines were asked not to index it. I still took it down.

A CV is a tidy, complete account of a person: name, employers, dates and qualifications. That is exactly what someone needs to impersonate a candidate, or to approach one as a fake recruiter. Gartner expects that by 2028 one in four candidate profiles could be fake. Switzerland’s National Cyber Security Centre describes job scams in which criminals pose as employers and recruiters to collect identity documents or install malware. And once a CV is posted openly, the World Privacy Forum warns, you have almost no control over how it is used, by whom or for how long.

In a thread on Blind, a forum used by many people in tech, most replies say to keep your CV private.

There is a practical reason as well. A CV on a website has to be a generic one. I would rather send each employer a version written for the role, and large companies take CVs through their own application systems anyway.
